About the Project
Zenger Farm is a working urban farm in outer southeast Portland, Oregon, that promotes sustainable food systems, environmental stewardship and local economic development. Currently operating on 6 acres of farmland and 10 acres of wetland, the farm has an opportunity to expand onto 4 additional acres of adjacent land (referred to as the Furey property).
Growing Zenger Farm is a project to assess neighborhood needs, collect local input and develop a plan for the additional 4 acres that best serves the immediate Powellhurst-Gilbert and Lents neighborhoods. Additionally, this project will produce programmatic and policy recommendations for better supporting urban agriculture.
Growing Zenger Farm is a collaborative effort between Friends of Zenger Farm, the City of Portland Bureau of Environmental Services, Portland State University (PSU) and Catlin Gabel School. The project is managed by Ecotone, a group of four graduate planning students at PSU, and will run January 2010 – June 2010.
